Project Pipeline
Here we outline a set of practical, ready-to-go projects across the Ullswater Catchment. Each one delivers tangible benefits for biodiversity, farming, and flood resilience. All are currently unfunded and open to support.
Whether you’re able to fund a whole project, sponsor a section, or contribute time, we’re open to developing a partnership that works for you.
Wood Pasture: Martindale, Ullswater
Potential to create 1 hectare of wood pasture on a former intake field which is now predominately covered in bracken with very little biodiversity value. With tree protection until the trees are established, the area could still be grazed by livestock.
Natural Flood Management: Troutbeck
Create wildlife ponds and wetland habitat creation in a 1.5 hectare upland rough pasture site, through blocking drains, creating ponds and wetland scrapes, and planting scrub and trees. Reconnecting a steam to its floodplain.
Natural Flood Management: Watermillock, Ullswater
Upstream natural flood management and wetland habitat creation in a 51 hectare upland rough pasture site, through blocking drains, creating ponds and wetland scrapes, river restoration and planting scrub and trees.
Hedgerow Restoration: Dockray, Matterdale
Potential to create and restore up to 3.5km of hedgerows across the permanent pasture land on the farm.
Hedgerow Restoration: Howtown, Ullswater
Potential to create and restore 500 metres of hedgerows across the permanent pasture land on the farm.
Hedgerow Restoration: Mell Fell, Matterdale
To restore historic hedgerow lines on and around the lower slopes of Mell Fell, around intake land (non-improved, permanent pasture land), where some remnant hedgerows and trees still remain. Potential for up to 10 km of hedgerow creation and restoration.
Hedgerow Restoration: Thackthwaite, Matterdale
Potential to create and restore 565 metres of hedgerows around an area of intake land (non-improved, permanent pasture land).
